Where are they now?

At BBSCITT we specialise in nurturing the next generation of teachers in a setting where each trainee is one of a small group we know well and can support effectively. Every trainee embarks on year-long, practical journey where they’re teaching in classrooms from September and applying the knowledge they gain from regular professional learning sessions led by experts across the academic year.

BBSCITT leads trainees to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) qualification with up to 60 Master’s credits awarded by the University of Worcester by the end of the year.

Here is an insight into the journeys of two of our graduates from our most recent 2025/26 SCITT cohort.

Sophie’s Journey

Looking back at where my journey began, I started my SCITT course as someone who wasn’t even entirely sure if teaching was truly for me. Fast forward to today, and I am adoring my life—I can honestly say I have never been happier!

The training itself gave me everything I needed to feel ready. The subject-specific sessions massively boosted my knowledge and built up my confidence in areas I felt unsure about. On top of that, the ITaP (Intensive Training and Practice) weeks were a phenomenal way to learn new techniques and immediately put them into practice in the classroom environment. Combined with the observations from the SCITT team—which provided invaluable feedback every step of the way—I always felt guided and encouraged to grow.

After interviewing for jobs with amazing support from the SCITT team, I secured a position at a fantastic school where the provider hosts placement students. The staff here have been incredibly welcoming, and I am loving every single second of teaching my very own Year 6 class.

The skills I gained and the lifelong friendships I made during my training year are things I will carry with me forever. I couldn’t be more grateful to the SCITT for providing the guidance, knowledge, and support I needed for my future. To anyone joining the SCITT now: be extremely excited about the life-changing opportunities coming your way!

Joe’s Journey

Writing this today, it doesn’t seem real that just over a year ago, I was standing in front of a class of children for the very first time, as a brand new trainee teacher. I still remember the nerves, uncertainty and sheer excitement to get started as if it were yesterday.

I can’t begin to explain what a transformational year it has been. I’ve been privileged to work with and learn from expert teachers, mentors, and most importantly, the pupils. Whether discussing pedagogy in professional studies sessions or implementing this in my teaching in the classroom, every day was truly a school day.

I cannot thank the SCITT enough for the exceptional training, experiences and guidance they have given me. Every moment has had incredible value and has helped prepare me for what came next.

Fast forward to today, I am a Year 3 class teacher in my main placement school from my training year. I have been fortunate enough to transition up to Year 3 with my placement Year 2 class from Summer term last year, which has been a real gift to continue to watch them grow and learn every day.

I have also already ‘survived’ my first Ofsted inspection after receiving the phone call on day 5 of being a teacher! While this was not the first week I had envisioned, thanks to my training from Barr Beacon SCITT, I felt extremely prepared to showcase everything I had learned.

Every day continues to bring new opportunities for me to bring my phenomenal training to life, and for that I am extremely grateful to Barr Beacon SCITT!
