I couldn’t have felt more prepared for my first year of teaching.
I trained with Barr Beacon SCITT in 2023-24 on the 5-11 course, after completing my three-year degree in Sociology. The course provided me with an in-depth understanding of the curriculum, recent pedagogy and effective behaviour management, developing me into a well-rounded and competent teacher. My contrasting placements immersed me into different school settings, allowing me to accurately capture school environments and expectations.
Now, as an Early Careers Teacher in one of my placement schools, I feel confident that I can meet the demands of the classroom. I feel fortunate to have received such thorough training and continue to feel supported as an ECT by the SCITT, which ensured that I knew my entitlements as an ECT and have remained contactable, should I need any advice. I couldn’t have felt more prepared for my first year of teaching and would recommend the course to anybody who wants to inspire the next generation!

I am grateful to be building my teaching career in the very community where I trained.
‘Training with BBSCITT has been an incredibly rewarding and special experience. I cannot speak highly enough about BBSCITT. As part of the 2024–25 11–16 cohort, I felt fully supported from the very first day. The mentors, subject specialists and wider SCITT team created a nurturing environment where I was encouraged to grow, reflect, and refine my practice. Their guidance helped me develop both confidence and competence in the classroom.
I am proud to say that I am continuing my journey within the Matrix Academy Trust at Barr Beacon School. The transition from trainee to teacher has been seamless thanks to the high-quality training and support I received. The programme not only gave me the practical skills needed for day-to-day teaching but also instilled the professional values and resilience essential for a long-term career in education. They are a team that I know I can still go to for advice or support even after my training has finished. My time with BBSCITT has truly set me up for success, and I am grateful to be building my teaching career in the very community where I trained.‘

I am excited to continue contributing to the amazing work we do.
‘I have had the privilege of working in the trust for over 10 years. I started as a learning support assistant (LSA) and now I’m an assistant headteacher. In this time, I’ve grown both personally and professionally.
Currently, I am proud to serve as an assistant headteacher at my current school. This position has given me the opportunity to have a broader impact on the school community and contribute to its overall development. One of the things I truly appreciate about working for the trust is the amazing colleagues I have had the pleasure of working with. I have met some exceptional individuals who are dedicated to providing the best education to our students. Their passion and commitment inspire me to work tirelessly and continuously strive for excellence.
The trust itself offers numerous benefits, creating a positive and supportive working environment. From professional development opportunities to a strong sense of community, the trust truly values its staff. I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences I have had while working for the trust. It has been a fulfilling journey, and I am excited to continue contributing to the amazing work we do in educating our students without exception.’
