My name is Sophie, and I am 24 years old. In September of this year, I embarked on my journey with BBSCITT to train as a primary school teacher.

Prior to entering the field of education, I worked in management; however, I soon realised that this path was not the right fit for me. As a result, I transitioned to a role as a one-to-one Teaching Assistant at the beginning of 2025. With the encouragement of a supportive headteacher, I made the decision to take the leap and apply for teacher training.

During the first half term of my course, I have had the privilege of working in a Year 6 class, where I am guided by an exceptionally supportive mentor and an encouraging team. In addition, I have been able to connect with fellow trainees and participate in subject-specific training days and professional studies, all of which have provided me with invaluable support and development.

I have already had the opportunity to teach lessons independently across five different subjects, and I am thoroughly enjoying the challenges this course presents. The most rewarding aspect so far has been witnessing the growth of students and knowing that I am contributing to their learning while building meaningful relationships with them.

I am excited for the remainder of the year and eager to continue learning from everything that the SCITT programme has to offer.

Halfway There.

I am officially halfway through my Primary ITT course with BBSCITT, and I can honestly say I am absolutely loving the experience. Time has flown by, and reflecting on the journey so far, the sheer variety of schools I’ve had the chance to visit has been a highlight; seeing diverse educational settings in action has been invaluable for my growth. This hands-on experience has been perfectly complemented by a wealth of subject-specific training days that have bolstered my curriculum knowledge, alongside professional studies sessions that have truly deepened my understanding of effective pedagogy. I feel incredibly fortunate to be at a placement school that is so supportive; their mentorship has provided the perfect environment for me to develop my skills and build my confidence in the classroom. I’m heading into the second half of the year feeling inspired, prepared, and excited for what’s to come.
